Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid of various consistencies (firmness) which are used to assist in the following:
- Replace lost volume on the face
- Lift a sagging cheek, jowl or eyelid
- Beautify patients to plump up a lip or change the corner of the mouth
- Correct a defect-post surgery, e.g.: Cleft Lip
These products are injected into the face either deep (close to the bone) or into subcutaneous tissue using a needle or micro canula.
It is a minimally invasive treatment with mild to no downtime and produces very natural results. But like any medical procedure there are possible side effects and complications which must be discussed in your consultation with the doctor.
It is recommended that all anti-coagulants (blood thinners) are stopped 3 days before the procedure. Please arrive 30 minutes before the procedure should you require a local anaesthetic cream. (This makes the treatment less painful).
Fillers should never be done 2 weeks before or after a dental procedure or if you have an active infection in any of the treatment areas.
The patients must prepare themselves that there might be some swelling and bruising after the procedure, which is normal and no reason for concern. The patient must also keep in mind that the fillers can take up to three (3) weeks to settle before desired result is visible.
